Do you ever feel bombarded by lies? I have lately. After reacting wrongly in a situation that I actually cared about a great deal, the enemy jumped right on it. “You’re a terrible Christian,” he sneered. “And you think you can do some good as a Christian blogger?! Ha, what a farce!”
Never mind that I had apologized for my action, and intend to do so again as soon as possible. In listening to those lies, I started feeling defeated, condemned, and worthless.
After we do or say wrong we often wish we could go back and undo it all. But that’s impossible and all we can do is try to make things right, then move on.
And those are the moments when we really need to hear the Lord’s truth.
Jesus had been teaching that he is the light of the world. “If you follow me,” he said “you won’t walk in darkness but in light and life.” And many believed in him. So to those who believed he said:
And he then went on to say that whomever he sets free will be free indeed, (verse 36). Totally and completely free, not partially, not mostly. But free indeed!
But sometimes we let what Satan or others say drown out Christ’s liberating truth.
We chose to believe what they say about us or make us feel, instead of listening to Christ. Instead of letting his words silence all the accusers and naysayers, those who refuse to forgive us, or those who cut us down in an attempt to make themselves look better. They are all lies from the enemy. But Christ has come to set us free.
Believe his word which states that you can be freed!
1. Liberated of sin’s power by God’s forgiveness.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23 WEB
2. Freed from guilt and condemnation.
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” – Romans 8:1 WEB
3. Liberated from fear.
“For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.” – 2 Timothy 1:7 WEB
4. Freed from life’s depressing anxieties.
“See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they?” – Matthew 6:26 WEB
5. Liberated of the fear of death.
“Death, where is your sting? Hades, where is your victory?” -1 Corinthians 15:55 WEB
6. Freed from your past.
“I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, your transgressions, and, as a cloud, your sins. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.” – Isaiah 44:22 WEB
7. Liberated of the fear of man.
“No weapon that is formed against you will prevail; and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of Yahweh’s servants, and their righteousness is of me,” says Yahweh.” – Isaiah 54:17 WEB
8. Truly freed indeed – only through Christ.
Free to follow and grow in him, becoming stronger day by day. Free to repent and make things right when we do fall. And free to liberate others by extending true forgiveness for any wrongs received. He sets us free from living under the bondage of being unforgiven, and from that of not forgiving.
“Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” – Galatians 5:1 WEB
Which lies have you been believing?
Concentrate on these truths instead. Memorize them. Reflect on them, making them part of your thoughts. Because true freedom only comes through Christ. And by believing his words, not our own or those of others.
The truth shall set you free, even from yourself!
Christ came to make us free indeed!
